Vacancy Announcement – Field Interviewers, Health Technicians & Listers
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is a semi-autonomous body established by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998, to promote the production of reliable official statistics and ensure the development and maintenance of the National Statistical System (NSS). The mandate of the Bureau is the production, coordination and dissemination of official statistics.
The Bureau intends to conduct the Uganda Demographic and Health Survey VI-2016. It is therefore seeking to recruit highly competent, motivated, results oriented, dynamic, team players of good character and high integrity to lead the business in the various positions indicated below:
DIRECTORATE OF POPULATION AND SOCIAL STATISTICS
Job Title : Field Interviewer (126)
Job Ref : UBOS/UDHS/FI/16
Terms of Employment : Temporary for a period of Six Months
Salary Scale : UBOSP5
Reporting : Statistician- Health
KEY RESULT AREAS:
- Locate the structures and households in the sample which are assigned to him/her and completing the Household Questionnaire;
- Interview all eligible men/women in the households assigned to him/her, using the man’s/Woman’s Questionnaire respectively;
- Work with the Health Technician in conducting height, weight and hemoglobin measurements of men, women and children.
- Ensure that all questionnaires are filled accurately
- Responsible for the safety of all survey materials allocated
MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of Uganda Advanced Certificate Education but with a credit in English and Mathematics at O’ level;
- Written and Oral Proficiency in at least one of these local languages: Ateso, Luganda, Lugbara, Luo, Ngakarimojong, Runyankole – Rukiga, Runyoro – Rutoro, Lusoga;
- Prior use of computers or other digital devices for data collection is an added advantage;
- Having participated in a health related household based data collection exercise for at least 2 years is an added advantage;
- Evidence of maturity, friendliness and willingness to work away from home during the approximately 1 month’s fieldwork;

Job Title : Health Technician (21)
Job Ref : UBOS/UDHS/HT/16
Terms of Employment : Temporary for Six Months
Salary Scale : UBOSP5
Reporting : Statistician- Health
KEY RESULT AREAS:
- Use standard equipment to measure the height and weight of children, men and women as identified by the interviewing team.
- Take a reading of biometric measurements of children, men and women.
- Draw capillary blood from Children under 5 years and women (15 – 49 years) to establish their haemoglobin and vitamin A levels.
- Test, treat or refer for malaria using Rapid Diagnostic Test among children under 5 years.
- Draw venous blood from a sub-sample of the Children under 5years and women (15–49 years) to be used in quality control.
- Store the Dry Blood Spots safely till when they are collected by a Supervisor or deposited at the collection Centre.
- Provide support to the Interviewers in carrying out the household interviews.

- A Certificate in Nursing or Laboratory Technology
- Oral Proficiency in at least one of these local languages: Ateso, Luganda, Lugbara, Luo, Ngakarimojong, Runyankole – Rukiga, Runyoro – Rutoro, Lusoga;
- Having participated in a household based data collection exercise is an added advantage
- Evidence of maturity, friendliness and willingness to work away from home during the approximately 1 month’s fieldwork;

Job Title : Lister (40)
Job Ref : UBOS/UDHS/L/16
Terms of Employment : Temporary for a period of 3 months
Salary Scale : UBOSP9
Reporting : Statistician
KEY RESULT AREAS:
- Locate the sampled Enumeration Areas which are assigned to him/her and completing the Household Listing Form;
- Draw a location map displaying the location of the Enumeration Area
- Document details about the household heads and draw a sketch map of the Enumeration Area showing all households therein;
- Collect a GPS waypoint in the correct format for each Enumeration Area
- Responsible for the safety of all survey materials allocated
MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of A- level certificate but with a credit in English and Mathematics at O’ level
- Written and Oral Proficiency in at least one or two local languages; Ateso, Luganda, Lugbara, Luo, Ngakarimojong, Runyankole – Rukiga, Runyoro – Rutoro, Lusoga
- Prior use of computers or other digital devices for data collection is an added advantage;
